{"id":11917,"date":"2016-08-16T11:08:11","date_gmt":"2016-08-16T15:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/?p=11917"},"modified":"2022-10-15T22:17:00","modified_gmt":"2022-10-16T02:17:00","slug":"backstage-tales-tour-disneys-animal-kingdom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/backstage-tales-tour-disneys-animal-kingdom\/","title":{"rendered":"Backstage Tales Tour at Disney&#8217;s Animal Kingdom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-11918\" title=\"Animal Kingdom in the AM\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Animal-Kingdom-in-the-AM-600x529.jpg\" alt=\"Animal Kingdom in the AM\" width=\"600\" height=\"529\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Animal-Kingdom-in-the-AM.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Animal-Kingdom-in-the-AM-150x132.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On a recent trip to Walt Disney World to celebrate my son Jonny\u2019s 16<sup>th<\/sup> birthday, we wanted to do something a little different.\u00a0 After researching tours at Walt Disney World, we decided on the Backstage Tales Tour at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/disney-vacations\/walt-disney-world\/animal-kingdom-park\/\">Animal Kingdom<\/a>.\u00a0 This tour was pretty reasonable, costing $96.85 per person, including tax.\u00a0 With a 15% discount is available for Disney Visa card holders, Disney Vacation Club owners &amp; Annual Passholders, this would be $81.48, including tax.\u00a0 This tour is offered every day at Disney\u2019s Animal Kingdom and runs about 3 hours and 45 minutes.\u00a0 Park admission is also required.\u00a0 Children as young as 12 can attend but must be accompanied by an adult.<\/p>\n<p>This tour is an early one!\u00a0 We needed to be at the park entrance 15 minutes before the start of the tour, which was 7:30 am.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t have our own car on this trip, so we took an Uber to be sure we were there in plenty of time.\u00a0 This worked out great; it was very easy to do and got us there early. For the 3 of us, it was a total of $7.04 from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/disney-vacations\/walt-disney-world\/resorts\/pop-century-resort\/\">Disney\u2019s Pop Century Resort<\/a> to Animal Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>We checked in at the front of the park to the right by guest relations.\u00a0 We got our name tags &amp; headsets so we could hear the tour guides.\u00a0 Quick tip- you can use your earbud, which may be more comfortable!\u00a0 At this point, they also took drink orders for our break time- coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or water and gave us a chance to use the restroom if needed.<\/p>\n<p>Our first stop was the aviary on the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail.\u00a0 We met up with an animal specialist in the aviary, and he gave us all kinds of information about the birds.\u00a0 We also got to feed them mealy worms. We were given rubber gloves, so we didn\u2019t actually have to touch the worms.\u00a0 If you were uncomfortable touching the worms, you could watch.\u00a0 A great tip the specialist gave us was never to have your mouth open when looking up in an aviary ;)!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11923\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11923\" style=\"width: 412px\" class=\"wp-caption behind the Festival of the Lion King building to catch a bus to our next stop.\u00a0 We were allowed to take pictures in the aviary, but once we went backstage, the cameras needed to be put away.\u00a0 We took the bus to the Elephant &amp; Rhino barns.\u00a0 We were lucky to get to meet Frankie, the white rhino.\u00a0 While his handler fed him alfalfa in different forms, we learned all about the white rhino.\u00a0 Although there were huge steel bars separating us from the rhino, we were about 5 feet away from him.\u00a0 It was an unbelievable experience, but since we were backstage, I couldn\u2019t take any pictures.<\/p>\n<p>Near the nutrition center, we took a break in a backstage education building.\u00a0 We had a rice crispy treat &amp; our beverage.\u00a0 We were also given a really nice metal water bottle for a souvenir.\u00a0 We listened to a conservation specialist speak about the purple martin bird.\u00a0 Ever notice those round white birdhouses in groups around Disney property?\u00a0 They are purple martin houses.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11920\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11920\" style=\"width: 413px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img id=\"caption-attachment-11920\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">souvenir water bottle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Our next stop was the conservation station at Rafiki\u2019s Planet Watch.\u00a0 We walked through the area where they prepared all the food and ended up in one of the operating rooms.\u00a0 Through a window, we could see a crane getting his beak trimmed.\u00a0 We were also given the opportunity to hold an Ankole cattle horn.<\/p>\n<p>Our last stop was a visit with the Tigers.\u00a0 There were two tigers sleeping, and we learned all about their training &amp; medical treatments.\u00a0 We were then escorted back to the onstage area and were able to ask questions of our tour guides.<\/p>\n<p>This tour was a great experience for my family as we are animal lovers, as
