Interview with Magic For Less Travel Disneyland Guests<\/p>\n

Our clients at The Magic For Less Travel are so valued and important to us that in true Disney fashion we refer to them as our guests.\u00a0 \u00a0Often our guests become our friends and extended family as we build relationships with them over the years and live vicariously through their Disney Destination vacations.<\/p>\n

Sometimes our guests\u2019 children grow up and begin to travel themselves with their own families!\u00a0 We love our guests and we truly take their vacations seriously \u2013 as much as we do our own and maybe even a little more.<\/p>\n

So who better to talk about Disney Destination travel than our very own guests of The Magic For Less Travel?!\u00a0 This is a third in a series of interviews I conducted with my personal guests who regularly travel to Disney Destinations. \u00a0Look for other interviews with guests who regularly travel with other Disney Destinations!<\/p>\n

Let’s talk with the Owens Family – Jerry, Vicki and their college age son Nathan – from Missouri about their Disneyland experiences!<\/p>\n

Tell me about your first Disneyland trip.\u00a0 What hooked you?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Vicki \u2013 in the 1960s when I was a very little girl.\u00a0 My dad was in the United States Air Force and my mom took us to Disneyland when dad traveled.\u00a0 It\u2019s how we distracted ourselves.\u00a0 Then Dad \u00a0moved to a job as a pilot of United Airlines which sponsored the Tiki Room so we went even more often!\u00a0 \u00a0I think the magic of the destination hooked me.\u00a0 It was such a happy place even just as a little girl.\u00a0 We closed out the park one night at the back of the park and I remember feeling like I was in a whole new world with the all the lights and an empty park.<\/p>\n

Nathan \u2013 the thing that got me was seeing my mom\u2019s reaction on my first trip when we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel for the first time.\u00a0 I never saw her happier!\u00a0 We have a photo of her checking in at the Disneyland lobby with the biggest smile and it was great to share that memory.\u00a0 I loved experiencing her first stay as well as mine at the Disneyland hotel!<\/p>\n

Jerry \u2013 when I was in the Navy I was stationed in San Diego and my squad was in a parade at Disneyland. \u00a0It was such a happy place!\u00a0 Also seeing my sons look on his face for his first visit made it worthwhile for me.\u00a0 \u00a0I always love seeing the castle!\u00a0 That is what hooked me even though it\u2019s much smaller than Walt Disney World!<\/p>\n

What keeps you going back to Disneyland?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Nathan – Mr. Toad\u2019s Wilde Ride! Things you can\u2019t experience at Walt Disney World.\u00a0 You can really feel Walt\u2019s touch at Disneyland.\u00a0 There is more charm with a quality hard to put into words. \u00a0So many small details that\u00a0 Walt Disney World doesn\u2019t seem to have.\u00a0 One of my favorite things is Shrunken Ned at South Sea Traders!<\/p>\n

Vicki \u2013 it is the original.\u00a0 It\u2019s sacred ground for the true Disney fan!<\/p>\n

Jerry \u2013 knowing the background of Disneyland after taking the Walk in Walt\u2019s Footsteps<\/p>\n

What is your favorite Disneyland memory?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Vicki \u2013 one of the first memories is having hamburgers in Tomorrowland and the stage came up and there was a band playing!\u00a0 It seems so trivial but my grandmother was with us and it surprised us all and she just loved it.\u00a0 And of course more recently \u00a0it was bringing our son for the first time to share the magic with him.\u00a0 \u00a0Oh, and my dad (who has since passed away) just loved the Matterhorn!<\/p>\n

Nathan \u2013 First time I did the Matterhorn.\u00a0 It\u2019s such a classic ride and I had always wanted to do it and experiencing the history of it was amazing.<\/p>\n

Jerry \u2013 having a Dole Whip while watching in the Tiki Room.\u00a0 Walking up to the Haunted Mansion at night \u2013 it\u2019s so much different at Disneyland.\u00a0 It\u2019s such a neat place at night with just such a different feel than Walt Disney World!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

What is your favorite activity that you always do or a tradition?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Nathan – One of our favorite restaurants is Goofy\u2019s Kitchen, and we always eat there\u00a0 It\u2019s our favorite character meal.\u00a0 Well my dad has an issue where occasionally he\u2019ll say the incorrect word when talking.\u00a0 He accidentally called it Goofy\u2019s Chicken and that name has stuck with us.\u00a0 We joked the entire time and we continue to laugh every time we go.<\/p>\n

Vicki and Jerry – Carnation Caf\u00e9 is also a tradition.\u00a0 We love going to have breakfast and we got to meet Oscar on our last visit!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

How do you define Disney Magic?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Vicki \u2013 \u00a0the Cast Members really define Disney Magic for me.\u00a0 You can tell they care so much about making it a special time for all guests.\u00a0 You don\u2019t\u2019 have a care in the world at Disneyland.\u00a0 I always become a little girl again, especially when I am meeting Mickey Mouse!<\/p>\n

Nathan \u2013\u00a0 you feel like you\u2019re in another world transported away from reality, especially in Disneyland park.\u00a0 The charm, history and quality of that park takes you away even though you are right in the middle of Anaheim \u2013 you\u2019d never know it, though!<\/p>\n

Jerry –\u00a0 Even in the rain or if you\u2019re having a bad day Disneyland put a smile on your face. \u00a0\u00a0I remember getting in line at 2:30 am for the 60th<\/sup> anniversary on July 17, 2015.\u00a0 Everyone was missing sleep, but Disney Magic put a smile on everyone\u2019s face! \u00a0\u00a0Who needed sleep?!<\/p>\n

Looking forward to most on next trip<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Vicki \u2013 the weather is always so much better in Southern California!\u00a0 I love the Haunted Mansion area so much.\u00a0 It\u2019s a Small World \u2013 I just love watching the clock and dolls, I could watch forever!<\/p>\n

Nathan \u2013 I am looking to doing Mr. Toad again!\u00a0 Also the beignets by the train station!<\/p>\n

Jerry \u2013 Star Wars Land!\u00a0 We always find something new no matter how many times we go and I look forward to that!<\/p>\n

What is your favorite Disneyland Resort?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Vicki and Jerry \u2013 Disneyland Hotel for all of us.\u00a0 The Disney\u2019s Grand Californian looks wonderful and fun and we\u2019ve visited it frequently, but when we go back we\u2019ll go back to the Disneyland Hotel because of the charm and nostalgia.\u00a0 It\u2019s so convenient and just a nice little walk to the parks.\u00a0 I had always wanted to stay here since I was a little girl and I love it.<\/p>\n

Nathan \u2013 We love the Adventure Tower, especially with the Theme park view.\u00a0 We love watching the fireworks from our room with the music piped in from the TV.\u00a0 It\u2019s my favorite Disney Resort period \u2013 East or West coast!<\/p>\n

What is our favorite Disneyland attraction?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Vicki \u2013 It\u2019s a small world \u2013 it\u2019s so grand and so magnificent!\u00a0 I love the dolls and the clock tower.\u00a0 Even the song!<\/p>\n

Nathan \u2013 Mr. Toad\u2019s Wild Ride!\u00a0 What other attraction in a Disney theme park takes you to hell and back?!<\/p>\n

Jerry \u2013 Matterhorn and Pirates.\u00a0 It\u2019s all about the classics for me!<\/p>\n

What is your favorite Disneyland restaurant?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Vicki \u2013 Wine Country Trattoria is a great place for a sit down venue.\u00a0 We were really surprised! \u00a0And \u00a0Jolly Holiday for quick service and treats.<\/p>\n

Nathan \u2013 Rancho del Zocalo for quick service is awesome!<\/p>\n

Jerry –\u00a0 Blue Bayou and Caf\u00e9 Orleans are both classics.<\/p>\n

What is your favorite character interaction at Disneyland?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Vicki \u2013 we were walking through the Disneyland Hotel one day and Goofy was walking around the grounds.\u00a0 We had the most organic interaction with him.\u00a0 It was just so natural!\u00a0 \u00a0Also at Disney California Adventure we were walking down Buena Vista Street and there was a street character (police) who we struck up a conversation with.\u00a0 I asked him if he had a minute and I reported my son for being a great person.\u00a0 He actually gave Nathan his first \u201cticket\u201d!<\/p>\n

Nathan \u2013 my dad and the Mad Hatter!\u00a0 We were watching a band play behind Sleeping Beauty\u2019s Castle and he came by and got my dad to do the chicken dance.\u00a0 Very slowly at first and then faster.\u00a0 Then toward the end of the song the Mad Hatter borrowed a pen and gave it to my dad \u00a0to use as a conductor\u2019s wand.\u00a0 It was hilarious! \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Also in the Magic Shop at DL on Main Street there was a manager who was walking around who asked me where I was from and engaged me in conversation.\u00a0 I met up with my parents later and we went back into the store.\u00a0 The manager was there and he said \u201cI think you all are from\u2026\u201d which surprised my parents.\u00a0 He wanted to interact and make us feel important.<\/p>\n

Jerry \u2013 That Mad Hatter is something else.\u00a0 It was so spontaneous and organic; if you interact with a Disney character you definitely get so much more out of the experience.\u00a0 No matter where you are the interaction is so much better getting involved and participating with them.<\/p>\n

Why do you use The Magic For Less Travel?\u00a0 What is the benefit?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Vicki and Jerry – For me it\u2019s that we don\u2019t have to worry about anything, no matter which coast.\u00a0 There have been a couple of time where we had an issue where we called you and you were right on it.\u00a0 Greater than that, though, is when they release discounts you are on it.\u00a0 It\u2019s amazing!\u00a0 I know you\u2019d do more if we let you too!\u00a0 We like making our own dining reservations, but we know who to call if we have issues or need help.\u00a0 It\u2019s just so stress free.\u00a0\u00a0 I know your integrity and what you stand for also.\u00a0 There is a huge level of trust, and that is important.\u00a0 It\u2019s so easy for me to recommend you to my friends and family that I love.\u00a0 They are well taken care of by you!<\/p>\n

Best advice for a new Disneyland traveler?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Nathan \u2013 if you\u2019re a seasoned Walt Disney World Resort traveler throw the guide book away!\u00a0 The approach is so different at Disneyland.\u00a0 You need a new point of view because Disneyland works in a different way. It\u2019s oriented more towards locals, for instance, than the big summer vacation extravaganza that World is.\u00a0 Make it more a more relaxed and flexible perspective.\u00a0 Patience and relaxation are rewards.<\/p>\n

Jerry \u2013 go to Magical mornings, especially to Cars Land which is amazing!<\/p>\n

Vicki \u2013 I would say if you can, spread out your visit for a couple of days.\u00a0 Otherwise, you\u2019ll rush too much and you won\u2019t notice the small things that make the park so charming.<\/p>\n

Who is your favorite Disney character?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Vicki \u2013 Mickey Mouse!\u00a0 I just love him.<\/p>\n

Nathan \u2013 I like the Fab 5 (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto and Goofy), but I really like the Alice and in Wonderland characters, \u00a0too!<\/p>\n

Jerry \u2013 Mickey and Goofy and of course Minnie\u2019s not too bad!<\/p>\n

Do you have any other advice for Disneyland?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

All – You feel like a VIP at Disneyland which you don\u2019t often feel at Walt Disney World.<\/p>\n

He also carries a Universal Studios Specialist designation and is an Annual Passholder with the Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood Resorts. He is also certified with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and has sailed dozens of times on RCCL as well as other cruise lines. Steve has a work hard, play hard mentality and has a strong passion to assist his clients to make the most of their valuable vacation time and dollars.
