{"id":15250,"date":"2018-05-23T11:32:20","date_gmt":"2018-05-23T15:32:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/?p=15250"},"modified":"2025-04-27T22:18:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T02:18:10","slug":"marathon-race-weekend-at-the-polynesian-and-castaway-cay-challenge-on-the-disney-dream","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/marathon-race-weekend-at-the-polynesian-and-castaway-cay-challenge-on-the-disney-dream\/","title":{"rendered":"Marathon Race Weekend at the Polynesian and Castaway Cay Challenge on the Disney Dream!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In January I completed my second Dopey challenge (48.6 magical miles!) and then celebrated with a cruise on the Disney Dream, and another 3.1 miles on Disney&#8217;s private island, Castaway Cay.\u00a0 The Polynesian resort is perfectly located for getting around the World, via monorail, bus or boat.\u00a0 And the food options (Ohana, Kona Cafe, Trader Sam&#8217;s, and Captain Cook&#8217;s) can&#8217;t be beat.\u00a0 Shown below is the famous (and yummy) tonga toast at Kona Cafe and the lapu lapu (fruity rum drink served in an actual pineapple!) at Ohana.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15246 alignleft\" title=\"IMG_1876\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_1876.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_1876.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_1876-150x113.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15245\" title=\"IMG_0314\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_0314.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_0314.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_0314-150x113.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Race weekend is a breeze at the Polynesian &#8211; Disney runs the monorail early for the runners on the half marathon and marathon days (you need to be at the corral area by 3:30 AM or so &#8211; it comes so early!)\u00a0 So having a convenient resort is crucial.\u00a0 I highly recommend the beautiful Polynesian resort for anytime, but especially for a race weekend.<\/p>\n<p>After the races were over, it was time for more fun, four nights on the Disney Dream.\u00a0 The cruise right after marathon weekend is special.\u00a0 This is the only cruise per year where runners who completed any (or all) of the 4 events during marathon weekend can run an additional 5K on Castaway Cay, to complete the Castaway Cay Challenge.\u00a0 Unlike the 5K Disney offers on every cruise that goes to the island, this race isn&#8217;t included in the cruise price and you must register separately, and in advance via the runDisney website.\u00a0 The price is $80, which is what runDisney currently charges for its 5Ks.\u00a0 However, its worth it, because you get a special Castaway Cay Challenge medal (in addition to the normal Castaway 5K medal), characters on the course, and you get to get off the ship on the island while its still dark!
