{"id":15383,"date":"2018-04-16T07:20:16","date_gmt":"2018-04-16T11:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/?p=15383"},"modified":"2025-04-27T22:23:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T02:23:08","slug":"a-look-at-a-path-less-traveled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/a-look-at-a-path-less-traveled\/","title":{"rendered":"A Look at A Path Less Traveled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Path Less Traveled is a new tour being offered at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/disney-vacations\/walt-disney-world\/animal-kingdom-park\/\">Animal Kingdom<\/a>\u00a0to celebrate their 20th Anniversary during the month of April.\u00a0 My daughter and I decided to do something new and different this trip.\u00a0 She has\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">always been an animal lover and has said that we just don&#8217;t spend enough time in this park.\u00a0 Since she has decided to study Zoology when she goes to college next year, I knew this was the tour for us!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15394\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15394\" style=\"width: 368px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15394\" title=\"A Path Less Traveled Tour\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/A-Path-Less-Traveled-Tour.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/A-Path-Less-Traveled-Tour.jpg 588w, https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/A-Path-Less-Traveled-Tour-150x113.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15394\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Path Less Traveled tour wristband &amp; badge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The tour started off at the\u00a0Curiosity Animal Tours Kiosk (near Kilimanjaro Safaris) at 11 a.m. and we were given our schedule that consisted of 3 activities split up throughout the day.\u00a0 \u00a0We were instructed that anytime we were backstage, pictures were prohibited and to not take our phones out during that time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The first part was all backstage, except for the train ride and walk to Rafiki&#8217;s Planet Watch. After debarking the train, A Path Less Traveled tour truly began where we toured some of the Animal Nutritional Center and the\u00a0veterinary hospital.\u00a0 The kitchens were like most any restaurant kitchen, with standards and regulations to follow.\u00a0 The food served to the more than 1,500 animals come from the same vendors that supply all of the restaurants on Walt Disney World property and is the same quality (no scraps at all).\u00a0 Questions were encouraged along the way and if they didn&#8217;t have the answer, they kept asking whoever we came in contact until we got an answer.\u00a0 We also had some time learning about the Purple Martin migration research they are doing.\u00a0 They gave us some great tips on how to help these and many other creatures in our own backyard.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15393\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15393\" style=\"width: 373px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15393\" title=\"Stella and the Tree of Life\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/StellaandtheTreeofLife-600x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"373\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/StellaandtheTreeofLife.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/StellaandtheTreeofLife-150x113.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 373px) 100vw, 373px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15393\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Caring For Giants tour&#8211;watching these majestic beauties was a wonderful experience!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The second part of the tour was going on a Caring for Giants tour.\u00a0 From the initial description of the tour, I thought this would just be a glimpse of the tour, but it was the actual tour.\u00a0 \u00a0This is an hour long tour split between 2 areas &amp; 2 cast members.\u00a0 Our first area was chatting with and learning about the elephants from one the Keepers, Chris.\u00a0 His excitement and love for these beautiful creatures was definitely contagious!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15387\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15387\" style=\"width: 407px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15387\" title=\"Caring for Giants with Amanda\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_3029-600x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"407\" height=\"305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_3029.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_3029-150x113.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 407px) 100vw, 407px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15387\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Amanda, our guide for the African education portion of Caring for Giants<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15388\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15388\" style=\"width: 306px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15388\" title=\"snacks after CFG tour\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_3033-413x550.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"306\" height=\"408\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_3033-413x550.jpg 413w, https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_3033-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/tmflblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_3033.jpg 441w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15388\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Snacks after the Caring for Giants tour<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The second area was about conservation and elephants in Africa\u00a0with Amanda.\u00a0 She spoke of her home in Africa and the different ways they have helped the elephants thrive and chang<span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">es they have made to keep them off of the endangered list.\u00a0 At the end of Caring for Giants we were given the snack that we&#8217;d chosen earlier that day.\u00a0 You can&#8217;t go wrong with a Mickey pretzel!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The final part of the tour was VIP seating for one of the River&#8217;s of Light shows. This area is across the walkway from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.themagicforless.com\/disney-vacations\/walt-disney-world\/animal-kingdom-park\/\">FastPasses<\/a>\u00a0seating, with a similar view.<\/p>\n<p>This was a great experience and we really enjoyed ourselves!\u00a0 While they are currently calling this a limited time tour, the cast member that led our first part of the tour indicated that if this were a popular one, they might add it to the regular schedule of tours.\u00a0 I did receive an email survey a couple of days later, so hopefully this will be one they
