To me, the experience of staying at an onsite resort hotel is just as important as visiting the theme parks of the Disneyland Resort<\/a>.\u00a0 At the Disneyland Resort, my very favorite place to stay is Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa<\/a>.<\/a>\u00a0 In fact, it\u2019s my favorite domestic Disney resort!\u00a0 It’s the flagship hotel at the Disneyland Resort.<\/a>\u00a0 And the location is among the best with an exclusive entrance into Disney California Adventure<\/a> and direct access to Downtown Disney.<\/p>\n

\"Disney's<\/p>\n

Guests staying at Disney\u2019s Grand Californian who are fans of the Walt Disney World Resort will no doubt make some comparisons to two popular Walt Disney World hotels:\u00a0 many guests equate the resort to a merger of Disney\u2019s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa<\/a> and Disney\u2019s Wilderness Lodge<\/a>.\u00a0 And while there are some similarities, the 20th<\/sup> century Arts and Crafts theme coupled with luxurious amenities actually make it fairly unique!<\/p>\n

Lobby<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A distinctive feature of many Disney hotels is a grand lobby.\u00a0 And Disney\u2019s Grand Californian has one of the grandest.\u00a0 \u00a0The 6-story lobby really demonstrates the Arts and Crafts movement and theme in style.\u00a0\u00a0 Exposed wood rafters, Mission-style lighting and d\u00e9cor, tapering columns and decorative stone all pull together to take your breath away.\u00a0 Look down and notice that the tile flooring seamlessly integrates its design into carpeted areas. \u00a0Natural colors of brown, green and beige pull the California-inspired theme together.<\/p>\n

One of my personal favorite pastimes is to relax in the lobby listening to a pianist playing Disney songs on the lobby\u2019s grand piano.\u00a0 Or try sitting in front of the roaring stone fireplace.\u00a0 It\u2019s a great place to unwind, people watch, dream and to be inspired.<\/p>\n

Dining<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Disney\u2019s Grand Californian has some best in class dining choices that you don\u2019t want to miss.<\/p>\n

Award-winning and elegant, Napa Rose is a solid choice for a romantic dinner or a celebratory special event.\u00a0 Exceptional ambiance, fine-dining menu choices and an extensive wine list draw not only Disneyland Resort guests, but locals from Southern California routinely.\u00a0 And don\u2019t miss the Disney Princess Breakfast Adventure for an exquisite brunch and the opportunity to meet your favorite Disney Princesses face to face<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Storyteller\u2019s Caf\u00e9 gives a nod to classic California storytelling with buffet style service.\u00a0 This is the place to visit Mickey Mouse and friends for a wonderful all you care to eat character breakfast or a more relaxing all you care to eat buffet (without characters) for dinner.<\/p>\n

Some lighter dining options are available at the Hearthstone Lounge and the GCH Craftsman Grill, where you can grab a quicker bite.\u00a0 And if you\u2019re looking for apps by the pool don\u2019t miss the GCH Craftsman Lounge where often you\u2019ll have the opportunity to listen to live music.<\/p>\n

Recreation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Disney\u2019s Grand Californian has 3 pools.\u00a0 The Mariposa, Redwood and Fountain pools are all encompassed in one large gated footprint.\u00a0 There are also two hot tubs to soak tired muscles in.\u00a0 Don\u2019t miss the waterslide that wraps around a large Redwood tree!\u00a0 And for a big pool day splurge, private cabanas are available to rent for the day.<\/p>\n

If keeping in shape during your vacation is important, don\u2019t overlook the Eureka Fitness Center.\u00a0 It is equipped with state-of-the-art machines and free weights to help burn off vacation calories.\u00a0 You can also sign up for Yoga or aerobics classes here!<\/p>\n

Steve is an Advanced Graduate of the College of Disney Knowledge and is a Walt Disney World Resort annual passholder and a Disneyland Resort Magic Key holder. He has visited Walt Disney World and Disneyland hundreds of times. Steve is a Platinum Castaway Cay Club member with Disney Cruise Line and has sailed dozens of times on each of the 5 Disney Cruise Line ships to destinations in the Bahamas, Caribbean, Alaska and Europe. He has also traveled internationally with Adventures by Disney. Steve is an Advanced Graduate of the College of Disney Knowledge. He also carries a Universal Studios Specialist designation and is an Annual Passholder with the Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood Resorts. He is also certified with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and has sailed dozens of times on RCCL as well as other cruise lines. Steve has a work hard, play hard mentality and has a strong passion to assist his clients to make the most of their valuable vacation time and dollars.
