A Quick Review of Disney’s Contemporary Resort<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first time I stayed at Disney’s Contemporary Resort<\/a> was around February 2001, back in the days of the North Garden\u00a0Wing (where Bay Lake Tower is\u00a0presently located) and the d\u00e9cor was the bright yellow, red, black, purple and green.\u00a0 It was a bright and ‘happy’ room and a far cry from the relaxing d\u00e9cor of today.\u00a0 Cast Members wore purple and green and not the soothing neutral wardrobe of today.\u00a0 Alas, this was prior to the popularity of digital photos, so I’ll have to skip the\u00a0photo trip down memory lane.\u00a0 Suffice it to say, the present incantation of the resort really has stepped things up a bit!\u00a0 I do find Disney’s\u00a0Contemporary Resort to be a bit less ‘themed’ inside than other resorts, but with\u00a0so many choices there really is something for everyone.<\/p>\n

Rooms in the main Tower are the same d\u00e9cor as those in the South Garden Wing.\u00a0 Difference is location:\u00a0 the Tower rooms are in the main building (the A Frame that you see in most promotional photos) where all of the public services are located and these have balconies.\u00a0 The Garden Wing is the three story building\u00a0just south of the main tower and tends to be a bit quieter, and there are no balconies.\u00a0 Some rooms overlook the lake area and there’s a parking lot that is close by, and ground floor rooms have a small patio area.\u00a0 Personally I will stay pretty much anywhere in the Contemporary but I do enjoy the Garden Wing area because it is a bit quieter, and can be a shorter walk to the pool.\u00a0 I also don’t mind the walk to the main building, and since I generally have a car at Disney its a convenient hike to the parking lot from the Garden Wing.<\/p>\n

For comparison purposes, here’s a photo of the guest room in December 2010:<\/p>\n

Back\u00a0in the old days, Disney resorts\u00a0had bedspreads.\u00a0 Then some went to duvets as you see from the 2010 photo.\u00a0 Below is the 2013 version of the Contemporary Resort, with the triple sheeted beds.<\/p>\n

No duvet, more pillows. Decorative throw at the bottom is mainly for sitting and placement of luggage, and can be removed.\u00a0 The alarm clock is also an iPod dock for you i-people (as an Android gal I just plugged in my charger and put the phone on the table.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The triple sheeting\u00a0really helps with sanitation as everything can be laundered on a regular basis.\u00a0 If you’re worried about being cold there are additional blankets in the closet or you may call Housekeeping for extras.\u00a0 As someone who is usually cold at night I was comfortable in this room.<\/p>\n

Carpets and drapes were replaced as well, which is visible in the above photos.<\/p>\n

Daybed is now a beige color. Television is located in the wall unit contributing to the sleek and modern look of this room.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Among my favorite\u00a0feature of the Contemporary Resort guest room\u00a0are the large closets.\u00a0 Makes it easy to contain clutter or even unpack:<\/p>\n

The mini-fridge and coffeemaker (pod-type) is located between the two closets.\u00a0 I like that the coffee packs are\u00a0not lying on the counter, and I can hide my snacks.<\/p>\n

Small fridge suitable for bottled water and snacks.\u00a0 Too small for groceries.\u00a0\u00a0Drawers on right hold coffee supplies. This is a pod coffeemaker and makes one cup at a time.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I think my favorite feature is the big desk, because I generally work when on a trip.\u00a0 Back in the ‘old days’ you had to purchase internet.\u00a0 Now it is complimentary:<\/p>\n

Great functional work area if you need it. If not, just spread out. The mirror will work too for a vanity and outlets are available for hairdryers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Bathroom is not really changed from 2010.\u00a0 Still have those\u00a0sleek and modern\u00a0basin sinks.\u00a0 Beware of splashing in those shallow sinks!\u00a0 I like that this resort has a lot of light in the vanity area.<\/p>\n

So that’s the “new” Contemporary Resort.\u00a0 Rooms have two queen beds and a daybed and will accommodate five people somewhat comfortably.\u00a0 This is an attractive and\u00a0functional room\u00a0and you can’t beat that walk to the Magic Kingdom!<\/p>\n
