Contrary to what some might think, Walt Disney World is NOT just a place for kids. Adults of all ages enjoy visiting the Walt Disney World parks and resorts, and are able to enjoy great food, amazing rides and fantastic shows. But let’s say you’re on an adults only vacation and one thing you really want to do is meet characters<\/a>. Some things that might run through your mind are:<\/p>\n

Am I too old? Will I look silly? What should I do in this picture? Do I talk to them or just pose?<\/p>\n

Let me put your fears to rest right away, you are NEVER too old to get a hug from Mickey! Or any other character you meet for that matter. And you’ll only look as silly as you want to.
\nSo how do you approach characters as an adult? We’ve all seen those picture perfect, tear-jerking moments when little ones go up to their favorite princess for a hug and the entire line in chorus says “aaaawe.” But what about grown-ups? Here are a few tips on how to enjoy your own character experiences:<\/p>\n

1. Relax:\u00a0 <\/strong>You are not the only adult to come through and want to meet Mickey, Cinderella, or any other character at Walt Disney World. They are just as excited to meet you as they are to meet the shorties.<\/p>\n

2. Go for the Hug:\u00a0 <\/strong>Most of your favorite characters are ready for a hug as soon as you walk up. If you’re into it, then go for it, they don’t mind!<\/p>\n

3. Engage in Conversation:\u00a0<\/strong> One of the best ways I’ve found to start a character interaction is to ask a question or even just say hello. Every Princess enjoys being told how lovely she looks today (even your princess at home). Look at the space where they are meeting with you, anything stand out? For example, I recently expressed my concern for Goofy when I saw his motorcycle sticking out from the wall. After assuring me he was OK, he wanted to talk about baseball, since I was wearing a Cubs shirt. I also asked Daisy if she had seen anything amazing in her crystal ball that day. Both comments led to some fun interactions.<\/p>\n

4. If you want an autograph, get one!<\/strong> Autographs aren’t just for kids either, so if you want that autograph book, produce it proudly. Or maybe try something a bit more unique, such as a photo mat to put in a frame later or a postcard. My friend’s mother asked for the autographs of a couple of Disney Princesses, so instead of buying a book, she purchased a postcard of Cinderella Castle and had the princesses autograph the back.<\/p>\n

5. Take a selfie:<\/strong>\u00a0 While I personally am not a great selfie taker (the curse of short arms), it’s a great way to get some fun pictures for your Instagram account or Facebook page. By now, all the characters at Walt Disney World are very familiar with the selfie, and I haven’t seen one yet who has refused to get in close for the shot.<\/p>\n

Most importantly, just soak up the magic. This is your vacation, and if you want to visit with your favorite character, go for it! The munchkins in line behind you can wait their turn. It builds character after all!<\/p>\n
