What is a Disney Cruise Line Placeholder?

A Disney Cruise Line placeholder is a reservation that secures a future cruise. You must make this reservation while onboard a current sailing, but the good news is that it is open-ended, meaning you do not need to confirm a future date of sail just yet. Basically, you know you want to take another Disney Cruise because you had such an incredible time, but you aren’t sure when, or maybe even with whom! That’s A-OK. The placeholder will secure your future sailing with some fabulous benefits.

A Placeholder Reservation gives you a 10% discount once you change your placeholder reservation into an actual booking for a specific sailing. You have up to 24 months to choose your sailing and travel party.

Destiny stateroom

Here is more good news:  While on your current cruise, you only pay $250 per stateroom to secure your placeholder! It is a fully refundable deposit. which can be applied to an eligible future sailing after the initial cruise ends. Plus, you can book up to two staterooms on the same cruise, so you have the opportunity to bring more friends or family along.

As mentioned, once you disembark, you will have up to 24 months to book your new cruise. If you request to work with a Magic for Less Travel Agent, we will be sure to send you reminders during your 24 month window, and will also share notices of new itineraries, new destinations, and new ships!

What if plans change and for whatever reason, you are unable to sail with Disney Cruise Line again in the next two years? No problem at all. You can simply cancel the placeholder, or wait for it to expire and you will be refunded your $250 deposit.

It’s a win-win!

Let’s break down all the details:

While on your current sailing:

  • You can book a placeholder reservation through the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. Simply open the app and tap the “10% Off a Future Cruise” button to learn more and book your placeholder. If you would rather book in person, you can stop by the Disney Vacation Planning desk prior to debarkation.
  • Be sure to note that you would like to work with The Magic for Less Travel!
  • While on your current cruise, you will make a fully refundable deposit of $250 per stateroom. This is required to secure the placeholder(s).
  • You can make a maximum of two placeholder reservations while on your current sailing. If you choose to book two staterooms, both must be utilized for travel on the same future sail date and ship. You cannot split these up to be used for different sailings.
  • At least one member of the original sailing party must remain in one of the future cruise staterooms.
  • The placeholder includes a 10% discount off the voyage fare when you choose your next sailing. This placeholder discount cannot be combined with other special offers.

Policies for the Placeholder Reservation:

  • You have 24 months from the date of purchase to convert the placeholder into a confirmed reservation for a specific cruise. The future cruise must embark within 24 months after the Placeholder Reservation is booked. In other words, you will be sailing within the next two years.
  • Select peak travel periods and holidays may have block-out dates that may not be eligible for this placeholder discount.
  • The 10% off discount can be applied to a new eligible booking in Stateroom Categories 04A to 11C only. This excludes concierge staterooms and suites. However, you can still enjoy a perk if you do wish to book one of these options. If the Placeholder Reservation is converted to a new eligible booking in Concierge categories 01A through 03B, an onboard credit will be issued instead. Cruises of 6 nights or less will receive $100 credit, and cruises of 7 nights and longer will receive $200 credit.

Converting your placeholder:

  • Your travel agent can help you decide on a future sailing by sharing upcoming itineraries and dates available. Be sure to let us know if you have a specific destination or ship in mind for your next adventure!
  • Once you select your next cruise, your travel agent will apply the placeholder discount to your new reservation. The original $250 placeholder deposit is applied to the new cruise’s deposit requirement. You will have to pay the remaining deposit balance if the new cruise’s deposit is higher than $250. (The remaining balance of the cruise fare will be due at the time of final payment.)
  • After the deposit is made, the placeholder is converted to a confirmed booking, and the deposit becomes non-refundable. At this point, standard booking terms and conditions will apply to your reservation.
  • Please note that a confirmed reservation cannot be converted back to a Placeholder Reservation, so you must be 100% sure about your new cruise dates before we convert it for you.
