Choosing the Best Themed Resort Room at Walt Disney World

With more than 25 resort hotel options, I’ll help you with choosing the best resort room at Walt Disney World themed perfectly for your family! From princess to Pixar fans and a bunch in between, let’s explore all the highly themed rooms that you can book for your next Walt Disney World vacation.

Themed Resort Rooms at Walt Disney World

You’ll be happy to know that you can also find a themed resort room at Walt Disney World in the value, moderate, and deluxe resort categories!  Each resort  category offers its own advantages and I can be convinced that every single one is perfect for someone.  For instance, sometimes the type of trip makes all the difference in your resort needs!

Let’s see what themed rooms may be next on your list of places to stay! We’ll start with two of the original resorts at Walt Disney World  – Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Villa Resort.

The Incredibles at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

These incredibly well done rooms (see what I did there?) gave one of Disney’s original resort hotels a new and fresh look!  The Parr Family, also known as the Incredibles, make appearances in your resort room in not only the art work, but they’ve left their super hero suits in the closest!

Choosing the Best Resort Room

Also, open your nightstand and you’ll find some more crumbs from the Parrs!  Likewise, Edna Mode is not to be left out, and her mark and famous quotes don the decorative pillows in the room.  Some more subtle touches are the masks on the wall and Helen, Bob, Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack on the curtains.

You’ll find even more of the Incredibles theming carried through the hallways in the resort.  There’s also some classic monorail touches in the room which feel nostalgic.  Check out the lampshade and mirror in the bathroom!

Recently I stayed in a theme park view room and you cannot beat that view laying in bed at night! Check it out here.

Moana Theming at Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Another of Walt Disney World’s original resort hotels got a Moana update that blends beautifully with the Polynesian vibe at this resort.  For instance, look at the colors of Moana  splashed through this room making it just feel both happy and relaxing! Disney’s Polynesian Resort is completely on point with the atmosphere that you feel when you’re there.  Take a quick peek at the whole room here!

Choosing the Best Resort Room

You will find your favorite characters like Maui and Moana in the details like the lamp shade and artwork.  We know you’ll spot Hei-Hei in the mornings, or any time of day you may need a cup of coffee!

The theming is carried through areas like the Concierge Lounge as well.  What’s lovely about the theming of these deluxe resorts is that it’s definitely present, but not overpowering.  It doesn’t take away from the deluxe feel of these gorgeous resorts.

Mary Poppins Rooms at the Grand Floridian

The rooms at the Grand Floridian were refurbished not long ago and bring one of my absolute favorite characters to most rooms-  Mary Poppins! A nod to the movie, Mary Poppins Returns, Mary, Bert, and kids are woven into this room.

The artwork featuring my favorite nanny is absolutely breathtaking.  You’ll find many a penguin and bird throughout the room as well.  It feels upscale, serene, tasteful, with just a touch of whimsy!

The Royal Rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort

These rooms are fit for royalty and have regal touches of Princess Tiana and friends! Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside offers a variety of room types.  This resort is sectioned into Alligator Bayou and Magnolia Bend which is sometimes referred to as the “mansions.”

The Royal Rooms were recently redone and are perfect for the princess fan!  Princess Tiana is highlighted, appropriately so for the southern feel of this resort.  The gorgeous headboards in these rooms light up, giving the room that glowy, romantic feel!  On the wall, you’ll find portraits of Tiana’s princess friends –  Snow White, Jasmine, Cinderella, Aurora, Rapunzel, Belle, and Ariel.

Less obvious touches include the sink faucet looking like Aladdin’s magic lamp and the border near the ceiling, featuring some Royal sidekicks! Furthermore, you are surrounded by the bold and rich tones of these rooms, reinforcing the royal feel.  And don’t forget our favorite princes, they are featured on wall hangings too!

Little Mermaid Inspired Rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

We could not be more excited about these renovated rooms at Caribbean Beach.  These rooms are located in the Trinidad section of the resort- formerly the area that housed the pirate themed rooms.  These rooms now have a light feel and more efficient set-up to them!

And who doesn’t love our favorite under-the-sea friends? These rooms can accommodate up to 5 guests as well so families with more than 4 members can enjoy this fun theming at this resort!  While these rooms are assigned to parties that require a 5th sleeper and not specifically booked, we love that larger families get the opportunity to stay in these refreshed rooms.  Note that the 5th sleeper is sized for a child.

If you are wanting to guaranty a Little Mermaid atmosphere, consider booking The Little Mermaid themed rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort – Many Themes to Choose From

There’s a little of something for everyone at Art of Animation!  From classics like the Lion King and Little Mermaid to Pixar favorite Cars and Finding Nemo, let’s check these rooms out! Theming at this value resort is more obvious, and in the outdoor spaces, larger-than-life!  This makes for many great photo opportunities.  Art of Animation offers Little Mermaid themed standard rooms and three different themes for its family suites.

Little Mermaid Themed Rooms

Ariel and her crustacean friends are  very evident in these highly themed rooms.  Shells, bubbles, and Ariel’s treasure  trove will delight Little Mermaid fans!  You can also enjoy the Flippin’ Fins Pool in this area.

Finding Nemo Family Suites

Nemo and his friends are featured in what are considered the preferred family suites.  These are located closest to the lobby, dining options, and transportation.  In these suites, you’ll find not only Nemo, but Dory, Crush, and Bruce, along with some other sea friends.

In this suite, your headboards, dressers, kitchenette, bathroom, table, and storage are all part of the theming!  The Big Blue Pool is the main pool as well, with music underwater!

Cars Family Suites

Your Cars fan will absolutely love these rooms! The loveable roadsters are all over this space.  The cones and toolbox themed dressers are so  great for this family suite.  I’m torn between the bathroom vanity and dining table as my favorite spots here!

For instance Cars lovers will want to note that the Cars area has it’s own pool, Cozy Cone Pool, too!

Lion King Family Suites

I am a sucker for this beloved tale.  The colors of this suite will have you feeling like you’re in the jungle with Simba and his friends!  I can hear some of my favorite Lion King tunes as soon as I see some of these characters.

In one bathroom, you’ll feel like you’re on the savanna at sunset and in another, you’ll find playful Timone and Pumba.

Honorable Mention – Heavily Themed Resorts

Pop Century and The All Star Resorts

These resorts have serious theming! Besides some great price points, they offer some of the best photo opps too!  I know that many guests love taking photos of their kids in the same spots every time they visit to see how much they’ve grown!  Colors and size are are pretty big and because of that, you’ll want to keep it in mind if you get easily overwhelmed by such things.

Pop Century

If you grew up in the 50s through 90s, or just have an affinity for all things in those decades, Pop Century will feel like you’re stepped right back in time!  The giant Mickey Mouse Phone is my favorite – I still have the one from my childhood in my office! Obviously, certain generations may get more of a kick out of this theming than others!

All Star Sports

Surely sports fans will love this property!  Baseball, basketball, football, surfing, and tennis are all represented here.

All Star Music

Different music genres are represented across this resort.  You’ll find everything from country and jazz to Broadway tunes and Rock-n-Roll!  During your stay, you’ll hear that genre of music in each outdoor section too!

While all the standard rooms at the All Stars & Pop are pretty identical sans a few details.  Alternatively, I love that Disney’s All Star Music Resort offers family suites that accommodate 6 guests plus an infant.

All Star Movies

I love the classics here and the Might Ducks theming is probably my favorite!  Other themes range from 101 Dalmatians to Fantasia and Toy Story.

Other Disney “Easter Eggs”

“Easter Eggs” are hidden visual references to characters or objects in a Disney movie, show, or attraction.  Disney fans love a little hidden nugget! So you will certainly find your fill of Disney Easter Eggs at many resorts throughout property that I didn’t already mention.  For example, some of my favorites are at:

  • Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter
  • Disney’s Coronado Springs
  • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
  • The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – a Disney Vacation Club Resort

I’ve stayed at each resort hotel on property so if you have any questions, please let me know!  My family and I love spending time at our resorts and have our favorites for sure  – but there’s one for every trip! You can reach out to me here.
