Disney fans know already know and love the Genie from the 1992 animated film. But there is a new Disney Genie that can help you too! Walt Disney World has a planning app and tools named Disney Genie. Are you wondering who or what that is? Keep reading for everything you need to know about Disney Genie!
What is Disney Genie?
Disney Genie is complimentary service found in your My Disney Experience app that lets you create personalized itineraries inspired by the things you tell Disney you love! It helps you make the most of your park time and includes some tips and information too. Disney Genie will also continue to update your itinerary as the day changes, allowing you to remain spontaneous or have a more structured day.
Two Options that put you in the Lightning Lane – Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane Selections
There are a few other key terms and important things to know about Disney Genie. While this service is based in the app and is complimentary, there are two paid options available to you to enhance your visit to the theme parks. You can choose to purchase one, both, or neither! Ultimately, both of these options will put you in the fast lane to experience your favorite attractions! That’s right! Have you ever muttered the words, “I’d pay to not wait in this line!” while on vacation? Well this is exactly what you can now do.
The two paid-for options for Disney Genie are Genie+ and ‘Individual Lightning Lane Selections’. However, here’s where things are a little tricky – the actual queue you will use when purchasing either or both of these options is called, the Lightning Lane! The Lightning Lane is literally the queue that guests who purchase one of these options will use rather than standing in a standby queue.
When you purchase Disney Genie+, you have access to the Lightning Lane at a number of attractions in each park. You can see the complete list below. When you purchase an individual Lightning Lane for specific attractions not included with Genie+.
You also always have the option to use the standby queue (or virtual queue if offered). If you haven’t purchased Genie+ or Individual Lightning Lane Selections, no problem – get in the standby queue! You can also use the standby queue if you want to experience an attraction more than once. For instance, you purchased an Individual Lightning Lane Selection to experience Rise of the Resistance but just have to experience this attraction again – you can get in the standby queue!
Adding Genie+
Genie+ can be purchased each day that you want to use it through your My Disney Experience account. You can begin the purchase of Disney Genie+ at midnight each day. The cost of Genie+ fluctuates and you will check the My Disney Experience app for pricing each day. Expect to pay around $15 – $25 per day.
Guests who have purchased Disney Genie+ service can begin to book reservations for your first experience via the My Disney Experience app beginning at 7:00 AM on the day of your visit. Once you’ve ridden your initial selection, or the arrival window has passed, you can make another selection using the app. What if you book a reservation and it’s hours away? Well, you can book another reservation 120 minutes from the time of that booking. In addition, the app will let you know when you can book another reservation so you don’t have to keep track.
Purchasing Individual Lightning Lane Selections
If you want to purchase Individual Lightning Lane Selections, you will do that on an individual basis during your trip. Prices will vary per attraction, per day. Guests of a Disney Resort Hotel and Other Select Hotels will be able to make their first purchase starting at 7:00 AM on the day of their visit. This option is available to Disney Resort hotel Guests and Guests of Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels and Shades of Green. If you aren’t staying at a Disney Resort Hotel, you can make your first purchase when the park officially opens. This is just one more reason to consider staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel.
