Main Street Barbershop: Not Just For Kids!

Sharing is caring!

Open for business

Many of you know about the Harmony Barbershop on Main Street in the
Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. For those of you who are not familiar with it, it is a turn of the century good old fashioned barbershop, tucked away in the corner next to the Emporium and across from the fire station.

Having his hair cut there is one of my husband’s “must dos” on each visit to Walt Disney World. I always enjoy talking to the Cast Member on the reservation line when I call because they always ask “How many children and what are their ages?” And of course I always have to say…”Well, no children, just my husband!”

A little off the top, please
Not just for kids

It is a fun experience; something a little different, and the Cast Members who work there are always wonderful, especially with the little ones. The have toys and stickers to keep them occupied while they are having their hair cut and are always very patient. For the slightly older kids, they have some fun colored hair gel on hand for some extra fun.  If you are thinking about taking your child for their first haircut, the barbershop actually offers a “My First Haircut”
experience, which includes a certificate, a lock of hair and “My First Haircut” Mickey ears for you to take home. We did this for my nephew a few years ago, which was really fun.

If you happen to see a roving Photopass photographer outside, you can ask them if they might be willing to come into the Barbershop for a quick photo of your little one getting their haircut. This is not always possible, but we have seen the roving photographers on occasion, and have asked them to do this. (Please note: they are roving photographers, not the photographers who are set up on Main Street to take photos in front of the castle or the train station.)

You might just see the Dapper Dans stop by to sing a song, too!

The Harmony Barbershop is a wonderful way to have a special memory of your trip to the Magic Kingdom! I do recommend that you make a reservation, as the barbershop does get busy. If you are flexible on time, I recommend early mornings or late evenings.

So, get your haircut or take your little one for that First Haircut, and have fun!
