A Magical Tip about your Magic Band!

There is nothing more exciting than getting your Disney mail when you are planning a magical vacation! One item that you will receive in the mail prior about 2-3 weeks prior to leaving (if you live in the U.S.) is your Magic Bands!

Your Magic Bands arrive in a non-descript brown box with no indicators pointing to Disney. This is vital for those of you who are hoping to surprise someone special with a visit to the Mouse House! Once you open the outer box you will find the white Magic Band box, currently with Mrs. Incredible pictured on the cover.  Open that box and inside you find Disney’s latest and greatest piece of technology… your Magic Band(s)!

Disney Mail is the best kind of mail!

For those staying at a Disney-owned resort, you will receive a Magic Band for each person listed on your reservation. Yes, even infants get their very own Disney souvenir that actually will function as a room key!  By now you probably know the basics. Magic Bands are your “ticket” onto the Magical Express motorcoach bus if you are flying and have signed up for the service before arriving in Orlando, they are your room key, your park tickets, your Memory Maker (if purchased), how you validate your Fastpasses at shows and attractions, they are the means by which you redeem dining credits if you have a dining plan, and you can even charge back to your room when you attach a credit/debit card and pin code to your room.

If you are not staying at a Disney owned resort, you may choose to purchase Magic Bands for your Disney vacation as well. They are available for purchase prior to arrival from Disney Shopping.com or after arrival at many of the park gift shops and the World of Disney store in the Disney Springs shopping district.  The Magic Bands can be linked to your previously purchased park tickets so that you can use them for park admission. Once in the parks you can use the Magic Bands to validate your Fastpasses and for Memory Maker.

You may notice that the Magic Bands are similar to a sports watch in that you can size it to fit your wrist however you feel comfortable. Straight out of the box you may find that the band is too large to comfortably fit smaller adults and children. There are directions inside the box that tell you how to peel off the outer rim of the band to make it smaller and more secure. I strongly suggest you take the time to make the bands smaller for those who need it. Bands that are too big are easier to pop loose and get then get lost.

I have step by step picture directions for how to customize the fit of your Magic Bands!

The outer grey band can be removed to make the Magic Band smaller and fit better on smaller wrists.
The initial break in the band.
Sometimes I find it a little difficult to get the initial break in the band. Don’t give up, though. Bending it back and forth a few times should loosen up the rubber enough to peel it.

One you get the initial break, it is very easy to peel the rest of the grey band off of the colored section. I should note that once you do this, you CANNOT put it back. Be sure this is what you want to do before you do it!

After you have peeled the outer rim off of the band, you are left with only the colored section.

Modifying the size of the Magic Band makes for a more secure fit on smaller wrists. This lessens the likelihood that it pops off and gets lost. If you lose your original Magic Band while at Walt Disney World, a Cast Member at the front desk of your resort can replace it with a plain, grey band without a name imprinted on the inside.
