With all the transportation options available, when should you use a rideshare service at Walt Disney World? Let’s talk about it!

It’s easy to find your rideshare driver at Walt Disney World!

Know Your Rideshare Options

Walt Disney World resort guests will always have access to their vast and efficient transportation system when headed to the parks or Disney Springs. Many Good Neighbor hotels offer a shuttle.  If you are looking for the most direct and convenient route, you may consider a rideshare service.

What are your options when considering a rideshare service at Walt Disney World? There are two major ridesharing companies that operate at the Most Magical Place on Earth: Uber and Lyft. To use either service, you’ll need to download the app and create an account. If you don’t already have these on your phone, you may want to add them before the start of your trip. With an account, you can follow the simple instructions to request a ride.

The Benefits of Using a Rideshare Service at Walt Disney World

Whether you are trying to hop between parks, or you are looking for a convenient way to get back to the airport, there are several benefits to using a rideshare service.

  • Convenience: In most cases, catching a ride via Lyft or Uber will offer the most direct route from one point to the other. Whether you are waiting for an airport shuttle or a Disney bus, your destination may not be the first stop.
  • Affordability: Depending on where you’re headed and how many are in your travel party, rideshare may be the least expensive way to get to and from the airport. Within the parks, Disney transportation beats the other options as it is complimentary.
  • Flexibility: There is no need to schedule your rideshare ahead of time as it is available 24 hours a day. You will not need to pay a penalty or make a phone call if your flight is late or you changed your plans.
  • Direct Access: If you are traveling from one resort to another, a rideshare may be your most direct route. If you are riding a bus, you will need to go to one of the parks, the TTC or Disney Springs and then transfer to one of the resort buses. Guests staying at select resorts may also take the Skyliner or a boat to visit another resort.

Bonus: You can also book a Minnie Van through the Lyft app. Minnie Vans are Minnie Mouse themed vans and SUVs driven by Disney Cast Members. Minnie Vans offer up to two car seats in each vehicle, and Cast Members have been trained to install them correctly. Learn more about Minnie Vans here!

The Drawbacks

  • Uber and Lyft cannot take you to the main gates of Magic Kingdom. Your driver will need to drop you off at the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC). From there, you’ll take the Monorail or ferry to get to the park. Minnie Vans, however, can get you right there.
  • Check the app to see pick-up locations at your resort or at the parks before choosing your method of transportation. You may need to walk or take one of the internal resort buses to meet your driver. Most locations have signs pointing you to rideshare pick-up spot. If you can’t find it, be sure to ask a Cast Member.
  • If you are leaving a park or the airport at a busy time, you may wait a bit for your driver to arrive. You may also pay a higher rate than you would during slower times. Using Walt Disney World transportation may be more efficient.

Even if you aren’t planning to use Uber or Lyft, it’s a good idea to have this knowledge in your back pocket. After a late night at Hollywood Studios, you just may want to treat yourself to a quick ride back to your resort!
